Industrial Hemp and its uses
Every part of Industrial Hemp can be put into commercial use, roots, stem, fiber, herd, leaves, flowers and seeds. Lets pen down why Hemp is important crop for India, and why it must be grown at a larger scale and why laws must be amended to take advantage of this versatile crop:
1. One acre of hemp produces as much as fiber as 2-3 acres of cotton.
2. Hemp fiber is far more stronger than cotton, softer and its life is almost double then cotton.
3. Cotton needs more fertilizers, more water, and almost grows anywhere unlike cotton and uses negligible pesticides.
4. One acre of Hemp can produce 3 times more paper than tree pulp, almost all types of papers like toilet paper, card boards, its paper can last for many hundreds of years. and it can be recycled more times than tree pulp paper.
5. Hemp can be used to produce fiberboard that is stronger and lighter than wood. Substituting hemp fiberboard for timber can reduce our dependence on forests.
6. Hemp can be used to produce strong, durable and environmentally-friendly plastic substitutes. Thousands of products made from petroleum-based plastics can be produced from hemp-based composites.
7. Hemp seeds contain a protein that is more nutritious and more economical to produce than soybean protein. Hemp seeds are not intoxicating. Hemp seed protein can be used to produce virtually any product made from soybean: tofu, veggie burgers, butter, cheese, salad oils, ice cream, milk, etc. Hemp seed can also be ground into a nutritious flour that can be used to produce baked goods such as pasta, cookies, and breads.
8. Hempcrete which is made from the hemp herds, inner woody white core can be converted into concrete like with the help of dehydrated lime. it can be used for making the buildings, which are environment friendly. It absorbs carbon di oxide from atmosphere, and last for hundreds of years.
9. Hemp produces CBD which is very potent medicine against cancer management, epilepsy, arthritis , etc.
10. Hemp seeds can be good source of biofuel.
